Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 13, 2018 (SKNIS): The TDC Group of Companies Limited received the Minister’s Award for 2018 for its invaluable contribution to the Department of Youth Empowerment’s developmental programmes, particularly the annual Summer Residential Camp and the High Schools Chef Competition.
The award was presented on Wednesday (December 12, 2018) during the Youth Service Reception held at the Ocean Terrace Inn (OTI). During the event, the Director’s Award for 2018 was presented to Steven Gilbert, a youth partner for many years.
Other notable awards presented this year were to Kamirah Williams – Most Remarkable Parent; Jalexia Matthew – Most Outstanding Student Volunteer; and Creus Richardson – Most Outstanding Adult Volunteer. Also recognized this year were the St. Kitts-Nevis Caribbean Disaster Management Youth Ambassadors – Most Outstanding Youth Organization; the Ministry of Education – Most Outstanding Partner Organization; and the Small Grants Programme St. Kitts and Nevis in partnership with the Sandy Point Art Association (SPARTA) – Most Generous Sponsor.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Youth, the Honourable Shawn Richards, saluted all of the awardees. He made special mention of Mackie Hazel Funeral Home, which sponsored this year’s 25 Most Remarkable Teens Award programme. This is the first time that the programme has had a corporate sponsor. eBikes St. Kitts was also thanked by the Honourable Richards.
Volunteers in attendance were also applauded by the deputy prime minister for their hard work in support of the department’s efforts and their commitment to serve others.
A highlight of the night saw 23 persons trained in First Aid and CPR being presented with their certification. The training was held on November 03, 2018, by the St. Kitts and Nevis Red Cross and was organized by the Department of Youth Empowerment.
