DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND SOCIAL SERVICES ENCOURAGES ASSISTANCE FROM VOLUNTEERS Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 01, 2021 (SKNIS): Officials from the Department of Community Development and Social Services are encouraging assistance from volunteers to aid the department in various programmes organized for older persons as volunteering can provide valuable experience for all aspects of life.
“We always encourage, and we always put out a call for volunteers to come on board and assist us. We can’t do it by ourselves. So, we put out a call for volunteers to assist us with our programmes throughout the year and we greatly appreciate that,” said Haniff Charles, Community Development Officer and Secretary on Seniors Enrichment Programme Committee during his appearance on March 31 edition of ‘Working for You’.
Mr. Charles said that the department will take part in this years’ International Day of Charity, which is observed annually on September 05.
“We are going to have an activity to celebrate International Day of Charity so community groups, volunteers, service providers can look forward to that, even our corporate partners can look forward to that where they can assist an older person in their community,” he said.
Equally important, he invited individuals and organizations who offer a service to the elderly to contact the department via telephone at 467-1314 or through their Facebook page Department of Community Development and Social Services.
“We would love if anybody who provides a service to older persons if can contact the department and let us be aware of the service that they provide in the event that we have a particular client that we can link them to that service,” said Mr. Charles. “So, whether it is home care service, private home care, residential care or even just transportation services tailored for older persons – grocery, delivery – any sort of service that you have that is targeted towards older persons do reach out to the department.”
