London, United Kingdom (11th March 2026) – Minister, the Right Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas joined his UK counterpart, Foreign Secretary, the Right Honourable Yvette Cooper to co-host the 12th UK Caribbean Forum in London. The day-long biennial meeting on 10th March 2026, convened at Lancaster House in London, brought together the Foreign Ministers from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Dominican Republic and the United Kingdom for high-level interactive discussions on cooperation and shared priorities. The Forum, which continues to serve as an important platform for dialogue on regional priorities, focused on geopolitics and partnership, climate change and disaster risk management, trade and investment and security.
During discussions, which were centred around a Plan of Action to inform UK–Caribbean engagement over the next two years, Dr. Douglas invited the UK to activate public and private sector support to engender energy security in Saint Kitts and Nevis. He spoke of the importance of shore-to-ship energy to bolster the cruise sector, which is an important sub-sector for Saint Kitts and Nevis.
The Foreign Minister also stressed that in the current geopolitical environment, energy security and resilience are fundamental to spur economic growth. He invited the UK to examine the geothermal energy potential on Nevis and to facilitate energy integration across the Caribbean. Foreign Minister Douglas called on the UK to assist Saint Kitts and Nevis with efforts to move electrical cables underground, which will help to reduce disruptions after hurricanes and ensure faster recovery.
On Monday, Dr. Douglas also attended the Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey and a Commonwealth Reception hosted by His Majesty King Charles, at St. James’s Palace.
